Rober Lord had a few things to say about his first season as the Ironwood Ridge High School wrestling coach. He said “There are a number of reasons I’m excited for the upcoming season.  First, it will be my first season as the head coach for the Nighthawks.  I’ve been the Assistant Coach for the past couple of years, but looking forward to putting my philosophies in place to keep improving the program.  Even though we have a few limitations around COVID, I’m excited to be back to a full season, this will provide athletes the opportunity to reach higher potential.  Another reason to be excited for the year is we may have our first female wrestlers in the room.  Lastly, we have a good number of incoming freshmen joining the program which will help build up the program and set us up for success in the future.” Coach Lord was also asked some more questions, one of these was “How are you and the players preparing for the season?” He replied by saying “For me personally, I’ve been pretty busy trying to figure out what all comes with the role of being head coach.  On top of that, many of the athletes have been working hard at preseason practices 2-3 times a week.  We are working off of the success of last year where we had our 1st state champ since 2016, Enzo Spina winning the 106 weight class, along with 5 other state placers. Many of the athletes are also playing football or working out at some local clubs in preparation for the season.’’ Takeshi Hurtado is a freshman planning on having a great season for the Nighthawks wrestling team. When asked if he was excited for the new season he said “Yeah, It’s gonna be cool and i’m excited to play for Ironwood.”
