Hi, my name is Ashanthi Otero and I am one of the three editors on the Ironquill staff this school year. I was a part of the beginning staff last year when I first came to this school as a sophomore. This is my first year as an editor and I am excited to work with Macyn and Jalen, who are the other two editors. After last year I am happy to be a part of this amazing team once again.
I always go by Ashi so never call me by my full name. I’m double jointed, I love any and all Broadway musicals, and I am the best you will ever find at iMessage 8-ball. I am a virgo so apparently I’m practical, kind, and sympathetic. When I was younger I watched Meet the Robinsons and ever since that has been my favorite movie.
I am currently a junior and I’m a member of the swim team here at Ironwood as well as a club team. I have lived in Tucson my whole life and I plan to move or go to college somewhere out of state. I dream of becoming a registered dietitian that specializes in teenagers and kids with eating disorders. If that doesn’t work out, I have journalism on the backburner. I have loved writing ever since I was young, which probably stemmed from my love of reading. Because of my enjoyment of reading and writing, journalism was a subject that interested me from the start. After my first year on staff I participated in a journalism camp at ASU Cronkite to learn more about it.
All throughout preschool and elementary school I went to Casas Christian School then I moved to Pusch Ridge for middle school. I started high school at Pusch Ridge then moved to Ironwood Ridge for sophomore year. I am so happy to be here for the rest of my high school years and I am so grateful to everyone who has helped me along the way.
I hope you enjoy this year’s newspaper and let me or the other editors know if there is something we should write about. Thank you! Have a great year everyone!
