Due to quarantine it has been exceptionally difficult to attend gatherings with a crowd of people, such as concerts. However, promoters found a safer way to hold concerts while COVID was still at large, drive-ins. The production model is just like a drive-in movie in the sense that audience members stay in their cars and parking is first come first serve as soon as the gates open.
On March 11th of this year, American actor/singer, Drake Bell, who made his acting debut on the iconic Nickelodeon show, “Drake and Josh”, came to Tucson, Arizona and performed in the Park Place Mall parking lot. The concert was held as a drive-in event. The stage was set up with two big video screens, one on each side, and the film crew providing content were Ironwood Ridge High School Film Production students. This helped the audience to be able to see from their cars and provided a close up view of Bell.

“I believe the set up was efficient and the screens allowed everyone to see the performances clearly” Said Kayla Vasquez, who is a Senior at Ironwood Ridge High School and member of the film crew.
“We had a three camera setup and live-edited the entire show, including the opening acts,” said Mr. Howell, Film Teacher and Drake Bell IMAG Director. “The event was incredibly well designed. We were socially distanced and masked the entire time.”
“I believe I helped create a better experience for the crowd … it was unfortunate that the concert had to be socially distanced, but the screens still allowed the audience to see what was happening on stage.” said Vasquez.
All in all, Ironwood Ridge’s film crew did an amazing job and the drive-in concert was a great event.
