Ironwood Ridge has been working to update all computers from Windows 10 to Windows 11, leading many to ask the question: What are the differences between these two?
First off, Windows 11 has cleaned up and given everything a more modern look–from sharp-edged gui to rounded gui, the general color palette has been shifted from vibrant colors to modern, etc..
Secondly, Windows 11 has improved on several features/apps from Windows 10. Start menu widgets are more easily rearrangeable, multitasking is easier and has more options (just by dragging the desired window to the top of the screen for options), “Microsoft teams” can more conveniently be used to make texts/video calls, apps that were previously available exclusively on Androids are now available on the Microsoft store (without the use of an emulator).
Though there are some obvious benefits to upgrading to Windows 11, there are also some less obvious–but no less important–drawbacks:
-Windows 11 requires a Microsoft account to sign in
-Windows 10 is more stable due to the years of bug fixing
-Windows 11 has higher minimum requirements (4 vs 1 gigabyte of RAM, 64 vs 16 gigabytes of storage–RAM is short for Random Access Memory. The more available RAM your computer has, the faster your computer will run)
-Windows 11 requires newer hardware to update
In short, Windows 11 is simpler and more easily customizable, but slower and will initially be slightly buggier than Windows 10. But your choice to update will largely depend on your preferences.
Is the update worth it?
For beginners: the update to Windows 11, for its more user-friendly features and updates, is almost certainly worth the slight decrease in performance.
For the more experienced: updating to Windows 11 is probably not worth it because the customization is more limited, and the decrease in performance is noticed a lot more, and you may prefer the ‘classic Windows 10 style’.
Still not sure?
There’s no rush to update as Microsoft will continue to support Windows 10 until October of 2025, so feel free to take as long as you want in deciding.
