Humane Society of Southern Arizona
If you are an animal lover, the Humane Society of Southern Arizona is an animal shelter that is in need of people to help with projects for the animals. “The service projects are anything from animal treat recipes to instructions on how to make pet toys and shelters” says the staff from the Humane Society. If you are interested in working with the animals, making crafts, and potentially helping an animal be adopted, this may be the center for you. Located at 635 West Roger Road, only 21 minutes from Oro Valley, these service hours are available to individuals from age 14 and up.
American Red Cross
The American Red Cross is another organization that you can do to get your hours in. The age limit required for this is 17 years old, and this organization donates blood and gives to hospitals who are struggling with patients in need. With COVID-19, this resource is crucial. Located at 4500 North Oracle Road, only 11 minutes outside of Oro Valley, if you meet the age requirements and want to volunteer to donate your blood, this would be a great option for you.
The Salvation Army and Shopping Angels Arizona
People who are interested in doing hands on services, such as The Salvation Army, Shopping Angels Arizona, etc. The Salvation Army offers many volunteer opportunities such as making food boxes, hospitality, kitchen and emergency services volunteer. If you are 16 or above, you are able to participate in volunteering here.
When COVID-19, hit our seniors they were put at high risk of getting sick, they were ordered to stay home as much as possible. Shopping Angles Inc. is a free service where people go out and get the groceries for senior citizens, and bring them back to their house or wherever they may be staying. This was made possible so seniors could stay safe and those willing could go run errands that the senior citizens couldn’t do by themselves.
Community service is something that is beneficial for you and your community. Community service also looks good on transcripts, resumes, and college applications. If any of these sparked your interest, get out there and help your community!
