WandaVison is one of the newest additions to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). It is a nine episode series currently streaming on Disney+ and was the first of it’s kind, predating The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. WandaVision stars Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff, who was a member of the Avengers. The series takes place after the events of Avengers Endgame and follows Maximoff’s slow transition into an antihero called the Scarlet Witch. Shunning traditional origin tale conventions, it shows Maximoff’s change through metaphor, what is going on in her mind while the events are taking place.
The show also stars Paul Betney as Vision, a member of the Avengers as well, and Wanda’s husband. The show is different from anything Marvel has done in the past, exploring a different way to tell a hero’s story. WandaVison takes on a sitcom style, each episode based on a different sitcom from the past. Some notable shows include The Office, The Dick Van Dike Show, and The Brady Bunch, as well as many others.
The series explores Wanda’s past and what has led her to this point in her life. It goes through her childhood and how everything was before she was first seen in Age of Ultron. WandaVision is also the first step in marvel’s phase four, which is going to set up Spiderman No Way Home, Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, as well as other future Marvel movies and shows. WandaVision is an origin story with lots of drama, mystery and comedy. The show may lack the usual action of a Marvel movie, but that doesn’t make it any less compelling. Overall, WandaVison is a good show and is definitely worth a watch.
