Student’s Career Paths and What Classes at IRHS Have to Offer Them

There are many classes at Ironwood Ridge to choose from and that have helped students choose their career paths.

Ariana Mendoza, a Senior at Ironwood Ridge said, “My plan after high school is to enlist in the Air Force. I would like to become a physical therapist and or photographer in the Air Force. I would have to say that the Sports Med class one and two got me thinking about becoming a physical therapist. The photography class has also helped me in becoming a better Photographer. Both of these classes have helped me decide what I want in the future.”

The Sports Med class at Ironwood Ridge High School, taught by Katie Nelson, helped Mendoza decide what she wants to pursue. As well as the Photography class, taught by Brad Boe.

Amanda Lo, another Senior at Ironwood Ridge stated, “My plan after high school is to go to the University of Arizona to become a surgeon. I don’t know exactly what kind yet, but I know it’s in that field. Biology and science classes at Ironwood have played a role in helping me decide what career path I want to follow.”

There are a variety of career paths in surgery to choose from, and Lo hopes the Education Department of Surgery at the University of Arizona will help guide her where she goes next in life.

Ironwood Ridge has a strong Science Department. Some science classes are even JTED classes that allow students to earn credits toward their high school requirements and earn credits for college. There are several JTED classes on campus, and Ironwood is lucky to have Mark Pincus, whose science class counts as a JTED course.

Another Senior at Ironwood, Selena Brower mentioned, “After high school, I am going to Arizona State University to study biomedical sciences to pursue a career in medicine. I can confidently say that the Psychology program at IRHS has helped me decide what I want to do after high school.”

Psychology made Brower see the importance of medicine. She went on, “psychology helped me open my eyes in seeing how medicine can truly be beneficial towards someone’s needs.”

Brower is going into college with hopes of not only being able to help people but also use the skills she learned in psychology and use them in her very soon-to-be everyday life.

Reilly Abel, Ironwood Ridge Senior, said, “My plan after high school is to attend the University of Arizona to receive a Ph.D. to become a psychologist. The Psychology class here at Ironwood has helped me decide what I want to do after high school.”

Ironwood Ridge has provided these seniors with great opportunities. The curriculum these students have received doesn’t just stay in the classroom but follows them to universities and national forces as well.

My name is Sabrina Brower and is my first year taking this class. I have learned so much more about journalism than I thought there was to it. I always say I can say what I want in writing better than actually speaking, so this has been a great opportunity to use and share with others.
