Star Wars 2023 Releases

The Bad Batch Season 2 (January 4)

With no republic to fight for, clone force 99–Echo, Tech, Wrecker, Hunter, and Omega–pursue their purpose in this unfamiliar galaxy. While season one was focused on keeping Omega safe from the kaminoans, season two will be more focused on the conflict between Hunter and Echo: as Hunter wants to lay low and stay out of trouble, while Echo wants the team to take a more active stand against the empire, and give more aid to the rebellion.

The Mandalorian Season 3 (March 1)

After Grogu’s choice to reunite with Mando, they will continue their adventures. The trailer for season 3 tells us that Din Djarin will seek repentance for showing his face to Grogu by redeeming himself in the living waters beneath the mines of Mandalore. His repentance will likely lighten the weight the Darksaber has on him, as shown in The Book of Boba Fett episode 5. On their adventure they will meet new foes, Grogu will learn how to better fend for himself, and we’ll explore his perspective/experience of order 66.

As of yet, Moff Gideon’s intentions with Grogu (from his captivity during season 2) have yet to be revealed, but there are a few plausible hypotheses involving the use of Grogu as a midi-chlorian donor for various experiments. (Qui-Gon Jinn explains, “Midi-chlorians are a microscopic life form that resides within all living cells.” Higher midi-chlorian count per cell means higher potential for force power)

  • To grant himself force powers
  • To make an army of force sensitive stormtroopers/clones
  • To resurrect (former) Emperor Palpatine

Moff Gideon may very well attempt all three of these, but will only partially succeed at the last; as The Rise of Skywalker (tRoS) shows Palpatine was resurrected, but with only a fraction of the force power he had in previous films. He was only able to match it after absorbing the life force of Ben Solo and Rey Palpatine. This is just speculation, but a reasonable explanation for Moff Gideon’s zealot-like behavior in hunting the small shriveled green one.

Star Wars: Ahsoka (August)

Ahsoka will be returning for her own series after her relatively minor role in The Mandalorian season 2.

Several characters from Star Wars Rebels have been cast for this series:

  • Ezra Bridger played by Eman Esfandi
  • Sabine Wren played by Natasha Liu Bordizzo
  • Hera Syndulla played by Mary Elizabeth Winstead
  • Grand Admiral Thrawn played by Lars Mikkelsen
  • Darth Vader/Anakin played by Hayden Christensen

(and others not publicly linked to a certain character)

The revelation of these Star Wars Rebels characters can tell us that this show will continue the story of Ezra Bridger and Grand Admiral Thrawn, whose fates were left uncertain in the Star Wars Rebels finale (March 2018). The mystery that has been hidden for more than 7 years will finally be revealed by Dave Filoni (the executive producer of Lucasfilm). So, this continuation of Thrawn’s story has been highly anticipated to say the least. Ahsoka will attempt to hunt down the fearsome Grand Admiral Thrawn–a ruthless and brilliant strategist, being able to flawlessly anticipate his enemies’ every move. This series takes place after Return of the Jedi (the film in which Anakin/Darth Vader died), so Hayden Christensen’s role will likely be in the form of flashbacks, and/or force ghost connections.

Visions Season 2 (May 4)

The main plot of the 9 episode series has not been revealed by Lucasfilm, but the formatting will be similar to Marvel’s “What If?” series: each episode will introduce a new story, each with its own characters and conflict. This series will be produced by several Japanese anime studios, so the style of animation will be quite different from other shows (such as Star Wars: The Clone Wars, etc).

Skeleton Crew

Most of the plot has yet to be revealed, but what we know so far is that four kids are lost, finding their way home through the vastness of the galaxy, meeting Jude Law (playing a character not yet revealed) somewhere along the way, likely to lead them safely home. In the Star Wars timeline, this show takes place after RotJ (Return of the Jedi), and about the same time as Ahsoka and other post-RotJ shows.
