Hello, my name is Macyn Koteles and I am one of the editors for the Iron Quill Newspaper. During my freshman year, I was on the beginning staff in Mrs. Rouille’s journalism class. In my sophomore year I was positioned as an editor after Mr. Howell took over. I was very excited about this opportunity and I am glad to be on the team for the 2021-2022 school year. This year I am excited to go to dances and games. Due to the pandemic, I haven’t gotten to experience these things.
I was born and raised in Tucson, Arizona, and I hope to fulfill my dreams of being a Labor and Delivery nurse at the U of A. Ever since I was young I have always loved being around children. I am even CPR certified from a babysitting class I took.
My proudest moment was when I became a published author for a book of poems in middle school. I have also received many school awards. Four things on my bucket list are skydiving, scuba diving, a semester at sea during college, and traveling the world. After college, I hope to travel the world and want to see the beautiful things that life has to offer. Traveling is one of my biggest dreams, and I think life is too short to stay in one place. Greece would be the first place I would want to visit because it is such a beautiful place, and I would love to see their culture. I was inspired after watching Mamma Mia and saw how beautiful Greece looked.
Three funky facts about me are that I broke my collarbone going down a slide and fell onto concrete when I was little. Another funky fact is that I am double-jointed. The last fact is that I love to zip line, and I have ziplined 4 times in my life. I like to think that I am very adventurous, I love camping and seeing places I haven’t seen before, it makes me break out of my comfort zone.
A quote I live by is, “Everything happens for a reason”. When things go wrong, or my plans fail, I remember that “this is happening for a reason”. I think it helps the situation and puts me at ease knowing there is a better plan ahead of me.
I am so excited to be on the team again this year. Go Nighthawks!
