When COVID-19 became a global pandemic in March of 2020, the senior class didn’t have much hope for a normal graduation. After school was shifted to an online model and a quarantine was then put in place it was official. The IRHS Administration and staff managed to put together a wonderful event, but it wasn’t traditional and it was no where near what the class of 2020 had expected.
As time has gone on, a sense of normalcy has begun to return and Ironwood Ridge students are back on campus, in-person, full-time. Does that mean that the seniors will get a traditional graduation? The answer to that is yes. The 2020-2021 graduation will be held on Wednesday, May 19th at 7:00PM on the IRHS football field with spectators welcome.
On April 7th, Ironwood Ridge held a “senior assembly” in the main gym and a lot of information was announced regarding graduation. The Class of 2021 is going to get a regular ceremony, masks are going to be required and must be worn at all times.
The graduation this year will look relatively normal. Mr. Munger, the Principal at Ironwood Ridge says, “the field will look the same, and students will be spread out around the length of the field. The stage will look a little different though, but everything will consist of minor changes.”
Seniors can invite 4 guests, but for the family and friends that can’t make it, the graduation ceremony will be livestreamed and recorded as well. The parents will sit in “pods” on the bleachers distanced from other families.
“Parking will be difficult and more cramped this year, we encourage families to carpool and make sure students are on time,” Munger stated. There will be about 430 students graduating including Amphi Academy and they can attend by choice.
