Clubs In Ironwood Ridge High School

There are many clubs at IRHS students can be in ranging from arts, writing, and sports. Clubs are a great way for students to make new friends, and find something new they might like to do. Since students have returned to full in person learning, students can now join more clubs as some start to reopen.

Veterans Heritage Project

The Veterans Heritage Project is run by Mrs. Blanchard, and is an after school program created in 2004 by Barbra Hatch. Since then over 850 students have interviewed and honored over 1050 Veterans. In VHP, students listen to veterans stories, and put their stories in a hard covered book titled Since You Asked. This year, Mrs. Blanchard says “VHP has interviewed 9 veterans this year (All on Zoom) and published 9 stories in our annual Since You Asked book.”

Robotics Club

Robotics Club is a club run by Mr. Boe. In the Robotics Club students build robots, and then show those robots to kids. Mr. Boe stated that “Robotics is hoping to have a meeting on the week of  ⅘ though today to go over the current situation with our robot, and the purchase of new kits to develop a VEX team at the school.” For those that don’t know what a Vex Robotics team is feel free to look at this website, and if you are interested feel free to talk to Mr. Boe about joining the Robotics club.

Key Club

Key Club is another club that has been active, and is one of the oldest and largest programs for high school students. Key Club is a community service club that is trying to make a positive impact on our school and community. This year Ms. Wenzel says “ We have only had one activity so far this year-we made fleece blankets for kids in need.”

Gaming Club

Gaming Club is a club that has recently reopened, and is run by Mr. Scrivner. Gaming Club is an after school club where students can participate in playing strategy board, and card games, as well as the occasional pen and paper role playing games. In the Gaming Club, students can bring in any board games from their collection to share with the club and is an after school club, where students meet in Mr. Scriveners room A155. Mr. Scrivner says “Our first club meeting was Tuesday 4/6 after school. We will likely meet each Tuesday between now and the end of the year for a bit of gaming, depending on interest and attendance.”

If you are interested in joining any clubs next year, feel free to check the IRHS website Clubs and Activities tab to see the full list of clubs. Do note that not all clubs are able to reopen, and if you are interested in any of these clubs listed above feel free to contact those teachers about joining for the next school year.
